lyrically thinking

Slow Club- When I go

If we're both not married by twenty-two
Could I be so bold and ask you?
If we're both not married by twenty-three
Will you make my year, and ask me?

If we're both not married by twenty-four
Will you pass me those knee pads and I'll get on the floor
If we're both not married by twenty-five
I hope that there's some childish spark still alive

Cos there are so many lessons
That I just never get to learn
And there are so many questions that still burn, like

Will you hold my hand when I go?
Will you hold my hand when I go?
Will you hold my hand when I go?
Will you hold my hand when I go?

If I get to thirty and I don't have a wife
I'll ask you nicely but I won't ask twice
If I get to forty and I don't have a spouse
I'll fashion you a letter and I'll send it to your house

If I get to sixty will you let me slip away
Into an armchair for the rest of my days
Cos you've got your family and I've got mine
The love that we share is for another time

Cos there are so many lessons
That I just never get to learn
And there are so many questions that still burn, like

Will you hold my hand when I go?
Will you hold my hand when I go?
Will you hold my hand when I go?
Will you hold my hand when I go?

women without men

Women Without Men - Trailer from IndiePix on Vimeo.

"In her feature-film debut, renowned visual artist Shirin Neshat offers an exquisitely crafted view of Iran in 1953, when a British- and American-backed coup removed the democratically elected government. Adapted from the novel by Iranian author Shahrnush Parsipur, the film weaves together the stories of five individual women during those traumatic days, whose experiences are shaped by their faith and the social structures in place.

With a camera that floats effortlessly through the lives of the women and the beautiful countryside of Iran, Neshat explores the social, political, and psychological dimensions of her characters as they meet in a metaphorical garden, where they can exist and reflect while the complex intellectual and religious forces shaping their world linger in the air around them. Looking at Iran from Neshat’s point of view allows us to see the larger picture and realize that the human community resembles different organs of one body, created from a common essence."

REAL veggie burgers

My friend Christina has a great blog take back your table, a food blog. It's always tough for me, as a vegetarian to feel full and eat well. With that said, I'm am so excited to make her latest recipe-- veggie burgers! Healthy and filling to boot!

Veggie Burger
Makes 4

2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup mushrooms, finely chopped (about 4-5 medium sized 'shrooms)
1/2 cup beet greens or fresh spinach, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
1 -15 ounce can red kidney beans (or any bean you like), rinsed and drained

*optional- 1 teaspoon salt (I find this necessary if you are using organic canned beans. They are not as salty as conventional canned beans and often need a bit of salt.)

1)- In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil mushrooms, greens and garlic. Saute for 4-6 minutes or until veggies are tender. Remove from heat and allow to cool, about 5 minutes.

2)- In a medium bowl, combine egg, breadcrumbs, beans and cooled veggies. Using a potato masher or your hands, mash the ingredients until the beans become mushy and the entire mixture comes together. If mixture seems a little dry, you can add a dash of water. Form the mixture into four evenly sized patties.

3)- Heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil in a large clean skillet over medium heat. Fry the patties until golden brown on each side, about 4-6 minutes per side. Serve on a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato and ketchup.
